Every journey lands at Velana International Airport (MLE) on Hulhulé, the airport island facing Malé. Direct flights from Frankfurt and Zurich take around ten hours, and the overnight departures from Frankfurt arrive mid-morning, in good time for a seaplane. What follows depends on the resort. Seaplanes fly only in daylight, boats to North Malé Atoll keep running after dark, and Baa Atoll can also be reached by a domestic flight to Dharavandhoo and a short boat ride. A late landing bound for a seaplane resort therefore usually means a night near the airport, and perhaps a morning in Malé at the coral-stone Old Friday Mosque.

It also brings the plankton that draws manta rays into Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll, usually peaking between June and October, while whale sharks stay in South Ari Atoll all year.
Some resorts use the quieter weeks for maintenance; Cheval Blanc Randheli, for instance, closed for June in 2026. In 2027 Ramadan is expected to fall in February and March. It is noticeable in Malé, where some restaurants close during daylight hours, and not at all on the resort islands.
